Boondall is on Brisbane’s north-side, approximately 20km from the CBD. There are two railway stations, North Boondall and Boondall Train Stations, servicing the suburb. Boondall railway station is a railway station on the Shorncliffe line in Boondall, a northern suburb of Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. It is part of the QR Citytrain network, in a transition precinct between Zone 3 and Zone 4 of the TransLink integrated public transport system.
Brisbane’s busy Sandgate Road runs from Boondall into the Brisbane CBD. The Brisbane Entertainment Centre at Boondall is a purpose-built venue for major shows and sporting events. It is easily accessible from Sandgate Road and from the Gateway Arterial Road.
The Boondall Wetlands are prized for their mangroves and wildlife. Boondall Wetlands lie on the edge of Moreton Bay between Nudgee Beach, Boondall and Shorncliffe and includes more than 1000 hectares of tidal flats, mangroves, saltmarshes, melaleuca wetlands, grasslands, open forests and woodlands. The wetlands are part of a chain of coastal wetlands associated with Moreton Bay which are listed under the Ramsar convention as internationally important wetlands due to the high numbers of international migratory shorebirds that visit the area to feed between September and March each year.
The wetlands have ties with the Yatsu-Higata Tidelands of Japan as part of the East-Asian Australasian Shorebird Reserve Network. The Indigenous Australians have lived at Boondall Wetlands for a long time and continue to have links with this land. The Nurri Millen art totems in the wetlands celebrate this culture.
